New Strategic Partnership
Advent marks the beginning of the Christian New Year. And with the start of this New Year, All Saints’ Anglican Church is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Carizon Family Service.
Carizon will now become the focal point for the outreach activities of All Saints’ as our local mission. Working together with Carizon, All Saints will be able to fully immerse ourselves in community development, walking with those we serve, as we seek to help enact a small part of the Kingdom of God here in Waterloo On.
Currently, our community pantry goes to support the Paulander community centre operated by Carizon. Beginning in January, when the Erb St W community centre becomes operational, the food pantry will be directed to that location. Each month, on the first Sunday of the month, congregation members are invited to bring in a non-perishable food item with their offering. The community pantry is accessible to individuals and families in Lakeshore North. What remains at the end of the month will be brought to Carizon to be distributed in the Erb St W community as the pantry is restoked again at the beginning of the next month.
This continual cycle reminds us the abundance we have been blessed with and that from our own abundance we are to become a blessing to others!
Our next major project is to help establish the new community centre. To help accomplish filling out all the things they will need, All Saints’ is very excited to launch our reverse Advent calendar project. The goal is simple, take a sticky note with a named item, purchase that item and then place it into the Advent Calendar by the Christmas tree.
Over the season of Advent spatulas, baking sheets, coffee makers, microwave and many other regular everyday items will make their way into the reverse Advent calendar. When Christmas arrives and we celebrate the birth of Christ, our gift to Carizon and the Erb St W community centre will be for them to hit the ground running.
Over the coming year, many other initiatives will be developed, from homework clubs, after-school programs, baking classes and many more activities as we walk with this community in the midst of their struggles and hopes. In doing so we hope to help along the way, encourage where we can and be mutually transformed from the various experiences.
It truly is a new year and a new beginning.
