Diocesan Annual Golf Tournament
On Saturday, June 17, the Diocese held its 9th annual golf tournament in support of Outreach in Huron.
Fifty-five golfers attacked the green fairways of Pine Knot in Dorchester in the name of sport, fellowship and outreach with the other purpose to see which foursome could drop that little white ball into the cup with the least amount of strokes.
This year, though we held the tournament earlier in the season in June, it still was not enough to weather a rainstorm and this year an electrical storm; and I don’t mean Rev. Marty Levesque and his electrical foursome who appeared dressed in a haunting popsicle blue golf ensemble, adorned with pink flamingos! Say no to the dress!
The golf play was ferocious, colourful, intense, humorous, casual, excusable and inexcusable. An eventual winner was crowned, though the number of mulligans has not yet been confirmed. A first-time team from Petrolia of Rev. Michelle Collins Wongkee, Mike Wongkee, Steve Vokes and Richard Bradley were crowned as the champs. Twenty others also joined the golfers for a fine BBQ at the course, with a silent auction of donated items and a live auction to send a camper to Huron Church Camp for the summer and an auction for a weekend getaway at the Falls.
$74,000 has been raised from the first eight tournaments held and all indications are pointing to another $7,500 to be raised this year. $73,350 has been disbursed from our proceeds to very worthwhile outreach projects in Southwestern Ontario since inception.
